The home owners association (HOA) can help you on this, but you should only be responsible for the contents of your home. So, I hope you have good insurance to cover those items. The exterior should be covered by the insurance that is paid for in your monthly dues.

  • Cold Heart:

You have to read the bylaws of YOUR association to find out – it varies. It’s usually outer walls, but might be to the studs, might be to the drywall, might be to the paint. Might include appliances, might not. Probably doesn’t include window dressings or carpeting – YOUR policy would cover that.
The point is, it varies. There is no “standard” – maybe there are a dozen “standards”.
